Jeff Wall's images are interesting but they don't contribute to the ''goodness'' in society. They don't make the world a better place.
I mean, spilt milk for instance, by an adult, no doubt on purpose for tha camera. Its rather in vain. (Maybe he's seen too many Dave Letterman spills from his rooftop?) Maybe he should visit a milk farm and find a natural pic. :-) - Sorry to be so picky Jeff.
Bachelors don't really pass out on their kitchen floor, under the table - its stupid..

I think the images he shows really portray his idea of how something is. Bachelors...There is so much more to that photograph than a bachelor passed out under a table. It seems really naive to say that this image is as simple as a passed out bachelor. The narration itself provides countless possiblities to what could actually be behind the story. I find it far from stupid.
Contributing to any ''goodness''; maybe not so much, but it is definitely thought provoking and it caught my eye.

I think it's kind of pretentious to put so much meaning into photographs. They're photos. 'Nough said. They aren't open to interpretation, because if they mean anything at all, they mean only what the photographer intended, and what's the use in trying to figure out what that meaning is out of an infinite number of possibilities? If the photographer doesn't intend for a photo to have a meaning, then there simply is no meaning to be found and you're wasting your time trying to find it.
Also, art can't make the world a better place, Judith. That's kind of a naive Sixties idea.
I know, I know--I'm being an a-hole., but at least I'm not pretentious. Just really bothers me, this whole delusional ''art can change the world'' mindset of this new age of hippies. Hugs and flowers and casual, meaningless sex, yayy, we'll change the world.

Dear Judith, The last picture is titled ''Insomnia''. And by carefully looking through the specifically organized scene, you'll see the previous efforts of the guy to find something, a pill maybe, or even to do something instead of sitting there... It shows desperation... And the scene is nicely arraanged geometrically
