About
Burstoid’s young, so we don’t have much to say about ourselves just yet. We got started when Spencer Fry was lounging around his Manhattan apartment on a Sunday afternoon in July 2008 looking for something to write about. With limited success keeping his own blog fresh with new content, he decided it’d be more fun, educating, and pleasing to write on a specific topic. As he had always been passionate about design and all artistic things, why not write about that?
Not wanting to limit himself to writing about illustration, graphic design, or photography only, he decided to keep things broad for a more general audience -- taking the best bits from all design categories and writing about those for Burstoid’s news feed instead. His plan was to keep out the noise and only write about the best from all design categories.
With the help of Sam Brown’s UI work and Jason Nelson’s custom CMS, the first incarnation of Burstoid emerged -- what you see today. Consider our current release as just a building block for what’s to come. Our goal was to release something quickly and build from it in stages. We hope you enjoy it.
